Vision Impaired Cricket ACT

If you have a vision impairment and you want to be part of a great team sport on a social or competitive level then

VISION IMPAIRED CRICKET MAY BE FOR YOU!

Vision Impaired Cricket is an outdoor sport slightly modified from the conventional game of cricket.

Teams consist of eleven players, including Partially (B3), Poor Partially (B2) and Totally Blind (B1) categories.

The ball used is made of plastic and coloured white. Inside the ball there are metal washers to give the ball an audible sound when bowled. All bowling is underarm. The bat used is the same as in sighted cricket.

You can check out their website at www.visact.org.au/sports/cricket/index.html

History

Blind Cricket was first played in Melbourne in 1922. The game was then introduced to the other states of Australia. In 1951 the Australian Blind Cricket Council was formed following a visit by teams from Victoria and NSW.

In 1953 the 1st National Championships were held in Melbourne with Victoria, NSW, Queensland and Tasmania competing. The National Championships have been held every two years since that time. In 1971 South Australia joined followed by Western Australia in 1973 and the ACT in 2003.

In 1996 Australia joined the ranks of the World Blind Cricket Council which administers international blind cricket with the World Cup held every 4 years.
